— The
quote is directed at Rocky’s son when he begins to give up and start pointing
fingers. He blames his dad for his own failures and asks his dad to stop
fighting so that he can live a normal life.
His son says, “The only thing I have going for me is my last name”.
Meaning for Me
— I
find this quote to be very meaningful in many ethical situations.
— There
are times in everyone's life when giving up or blaming others seems like the
best decision. By following this quote, I find that not giving up is always the
best option and will be the right choice in the long run.
— This
falls under the short term vs. long term ethical scenarios.
— A
good general example is in school. It is often very hard and it can be easy to
blame a teacher for bad grades or give up and say that you will take the F. In
the long run working hard and not giving up will produce better grades and be
more rewarding.
Perseverance is a kind of mental toughness you have to acquire by experience. The only way to learn to get back up is to get knocked down. Of course, this is never much fun, but as Rocky tells his son to expect failure and disappointment: "life is gonna hit you harder than I could." Family and friends can encourage you, but in then end, you have to get up, dust yourself off, and keep going.
ReplyDeleteThis quote means to me that you can try to hit life, but no matter what life will hit back harder. Life will always through obstacles at you no matter what you do or who you are. If you can get take what life throws at you, make the best of it, and just push past it. You win. You will win every single time. As soon as you start blaming other people and putting your troubles on others, life has you beat and will just keep pushing you down.
ReplyDeleteI really like this quote because it applys to everyone. Everyone needs that little push to move forward when they are faced with something hard. Keep working hard to get past that hard time and beat it.
ReplyDeleteI like this quote because it summarizes what life is to everyone. Life will knock all of us down and when we think we can no longer keep going we have to make the choice to move forward and not back down. We all know that life with disappoint us so all we can do is be prepared. It will be hard every time but if we know that it will only last for a short while its a lot easier to get over it.
ReplyDeleteI've heard this quote in numerous places--be it in YouTube videos for LSU football or in mixes of music. Seeing it and actually hearing it means more to me than just knowing it.
ReplyDeleteI think outside the box on some things and I like to cite this when it comes to situations like when you receive criticism. Sure, the criticism burns, but you have to take it and see where the new ideas (perhaps opposing ideas) will take you. People that can take criticism, or take the hit, will truly learn more from it.
It's almost as if you need to fail to reach your true potential--so it should be part of your experience and there's nothing you can do about it. You just have to face it as best you can.
Just about everyone can take a hit, but not everyone can take a hit and get back up. I think what this means is that true winners don't give up and keep trying again and again. As Rocky said in the clip, cowards are the ones who let themselves fall and then blame it on other people, and that kind of attitude is contagious and harmful.
ReplyDeleteThis quote means a lot to me because, being an athlete, sometimes you don't have a good race, but you can't let it get you down because it affects everyone else on the team.
In my opinion, this quote to me means that no matter how many times you have to try or how many times you get hit, life will continue to throw you obstacles that you sometimes feel like giving up. But despite getting knocked down and hurt, you have to get right back up and try it again. Like in Andrew's presentation where we watched the movie, it reminded me of the clip we watched. You have to push yourself past your limits. My father tells me all of the time, it is not what happens to you that matters, but how you react to it. You cannot control what others do, but only how you react.
ReplyDeleteThis quote reminds me of the saying that talks about in times of stress a person's true colors are shown. When something bad happens people don't usually see what that "bad" is, they see how you react to that bad and how you handle yourself through everything! It's hard to get hit so many times but really it's even harder to get up after every punch!
ReplyDeleteThis Quote Really is viewed the same way by everyone. The only way to make it in life is to keep hitting. Anyone who knows themselves and has done well, has fought back. Anyone that gives up isn’t happy. The only way to be happy is to know yourself and believe in what you think. A good example of this is cancer patients. My mother has cancer and they say the best medicine is to stay positive. The only option is to stay positive and the other option isn’t an option. The people who give up in that situation don’t make it and can’t take the chemo and the news it’s self. Don’t let the survival ratings scare you just let all your friends and family support you and get through this.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of this quote I think about what we talked about with earlier quotes about reaching your limits versus going beyond what you thought you could do. To me, hitting the ball hard means how far are your limits and are you able to reach them, while hitting the ball and keep on moving means are you able to reach the point that you thought you never could and find some way to push yourself even further. It is important to always give 150% in all that you do, as your hard work and determination will be rewarded in the long run.
ReplyDeleteThis quote is inspiring because it is easy to give up in life and want to quit, but you get nowhere by giving up. It's easy to get caught up in a self-deserving attitude. It reminds me to keep moving no matter what life hits you with.
